This article is mainly focus on the claim declared by
A&F’s CEO - Mike Jeffries. In the pervious
interview, he had affirmed that the clothing in A&F stored only designed
for the pretty and thin people but not for the larger group. His affirmation
implied that the larger group are not deserved to wear his clothing. This
aroused considerable opposition and discontent from the public. Some people
formed the facebook group to isolate this brand – A&F together; while
others posted many article and video to criticize the claim of Mike Jeffries. This
article uses the verbal irony, which is a discrepancy between the written
meaning and the intended meaning, to criticize the claim of Mike Jeffries and
ask the public to isolate the brand. I think using the irony is better then
criticizing other directly since we can prevent using some meant and rude word,
as well as some space can be leave to the audiences and readers to develop
their imagination.
