Sticking with the class material about satire, irony, and parody, this week I am focusing on a Saturday Night Live sketch called "Walking up With Kimye." This sketch is a successful example of satire. The characters portray Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, but take their unique personality traits to the extreme. The sketch highlights Kim's nasal-y voice, and ability to be a celebrity without actually creating real products or showcasing any talent. The sketch also over-exaggerates Kanye's sometimes eccentric energy. I think the aim of this satire is to point out this celebrity couple's unique traits and hopes to point out to society the silliness of their fame. This sketch successfully points out the flaws of the couple, but I am not sure it successfully shames society or the couple into changing.
